10 Ways to use an accent chair

A blue accent chair that's packed with personality - unique shape and style

One of the pieces of furniture that I enjoy shopping for the most is definitely the accent chair.

It’s so much fun to browse the impressive array of sizes, shapes, styles and fabrics – some serious and straightforward, others totally unique and packed with personality, while still others walk the line between both.

One or two are the perfect way to add extra seating in the living or family room, of course, but there are so many great accent chair options that sometimes you might wish you could think of another place to add at least one more!

Here are some ideas:

1. Bedroom retreat:

Bedroom’s are often our place to retreat at the end of the day, and an accent chair or two in the room provide a quiet, private place to decompress.

2. Soften a corner:

The problem of an awkward and empty corner can many times be solved by adding an accent chair, table and lamp, or floor lamp, to create some cozy.

3. In the entry:

If there’s room, a chair in the entry adds a welcoming touch, as well as providing a space for guests to take their shoes off and on.

4. At the piano:

Use a fun little chair instead of a piano bench to add some style and personality to your music room or piano space.

Or add a couple for your audience.

5. Opt for the office:

Use one in place of a desk chair, as a spot for clients to sit when conducting business, or for family to sit and chat in your home office.

6. Mixed dining:

In certain cases, depending on the size, scale and seat height, accent chairs can work as host chairs for your dining table, if you’re going for a more unique look.

7. Double up:

Step out of the box and use four chairs and a large ottoman, instead of the traditional sofa and chairs, to create a conversation area.

8. Personality and color:

Sometimes once a room is finished you realize that something is lacking in the personality or colour department.

Maybe it’s a quirky or fun little accent chair with distinctive details, a unique shape, or colourful fabric?

9. Kids rooms:

Create a quiet corner for kids to sit and read or study, and/or a cozy spot for siblings, friends, and parents to come and hang out.

10. Be inspired:

Whether you’re doing a room refresh or designing a new space from scratch, an accent chair may be just what you’re looking for to serve as your inspiration piece.
