Your greatest challenge – is your greatest opportunity!
This year, The Business Women Of South Africa’s year end event at Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga was themed “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” , and the 300 delegates who attended, from all around KZN, stuck firmly to the theme, with everyone looking very glamorous in little black dresses that they accessorised with pearls… mostly 😉
Fund Raising for the event was carried out on behalf of Girls and Boys Town, an organisation that Margaret Hirsch has been integrally involved with, and it’s where Kuhle, her adopted son is from. Managay Pillay, who is on the management committee for the Tongaat Boys and Girls Town and she said that since Margaret’s involvement with the organisation, it had grown from strength to strength.
President of the BWA, Farzanah Mall gave a powerful address about the importance of putting people before profit; the fact that not giving girls the same educational opportunities as boys was costing the Global Economy over 100 billion dollars and pointing out that as women, we need to stand resolutely in the knowledge that nothing will ever break us!
The winner of the BWASA Entrepreneur Award for 2015 (the award that Margaret won in 2012) Lee den Hond told guests how she had founded her now multi million rand events company, and how the challenge had taken her to a momentous event in her life – summiting Mount Everest. She is the only South African born woman to have ever achieved this massive feat of endurance. “you will always find that your greatest challenge is your greatest opportunity.” She pointed out. She used the opportunity to raise funds and make a difference in the lives of the Schaumberg community in Gauteng. Her proudest moment was holding the South African Flag, signed by the children in the community, on the summit.
