Celebrating Arbour Week and National Read A Book day with Sparks estate secondary High school.
Recently a team from Hirsch’s home stores Springfield park and NPO Ithemba Labantu headed through to Sparks Estate secondary high school to celebrate South African Arbour week and National Read A Book day.
Spark Secondary is a school located in the Berea area and is heavily in need of community upliftment to motivate and uplift the teenagers. It also needs assistance with maintenance at the school.
Arbour week is celebrated in South Africa in the first week of Spring , the community plants tree’s and other plants in appreciation and to create awareness of the importance of tree’s. Hirsch’s donated a beautiful hibiscus tree to the school as the first addition to the new reading garden.
Sparks secondary has also been working toward creating a library and it has just been completed . “The main task at hand was to get books in for the students as they have such a passion to read and learn but sometimes lack the means to do so “ said Shaeida Marcus. Hirsch’s took on this plight and the Hirsch’s team as well as their devoted customers collected an amazing 300 books for the school library as a community initiative as part of National Read a Book Day. “I can’t believe how excited the students were to start reading these books, the joy on their faces is amazing” said PRO Lindsay Starkey.
