The monthly Margaret Hirsch Women in Business Achiever (MHWIBA) networking breakfast recently took place at Hirsch’s stores around the country, and the focus this month was very simply on celebrating Women. In hounour of Women’s Month 2016, each Hirsch’s branch chose a community advocate to receive the Hirsch Heroine Reward – sponsored by Hirsch’s and Carrol Boyes. The monthly MHWIBA finalist was also announced. Hirsch’s in Milnerton hosted business women from all around Cape Town and many different industries, from Television, Radio and Print media to NPOs, professional shoppers and fashion designers.
Hirsch Founder and COO Margaret Hirsch took the floor to welcome the ladies to the event and share the journey of the MHWIBA and its aim being to uplift, recognize and develop women leaders of the community. Karen Thorne of Cape Town TV (CTV) was the July Finalist for MHWIBA and is the Founder and Station Manager of CTV and an inspiration and valuable asset to the media and film industry of South Africa. Karen spoke of the blood sweat and tears it took for the birth of CTV, and fighting media giants for the right to create a platform for shared communication to develop and sustain the future of the developing South African community television industry. “Never say never. Never give up on your dream – even if you don’t have the means to do it by yourself.” she said.
The Award ceremony was the final part of the day, and Stacey Robertson of OneFM and Director of Blouberg Development Foundation was announced as Hirsch’s Heroine. Stacey runs several community projects and blanket drives for TLC, a canned food drive for 10 NPO’s and a sanitary towel project for the Butterfly Foundation NPO, similar to Margaret Hirsch’s Girls with Dignity Foundation. Stacey was rewarded with a R500 Hirsch Voucher and a Carrol Boyes Water Jug.
The MHWIBA Finalist for the month of August 2016 was awarded to Rushana Meyer of Youghazi, nominated by Mushra Hartley of Media24’s Modest Muse (pictured above – bottom right) and will not only be the speaker at next month’s networking event, but will also be entered into the first Western Cape MHWIBA, to be announced at the Hirsch Gala Dinner in March 2017.
