Hirsch’s Strubens Valley recently hosted a First Aid Preparedness workshop for the Domestic workers inthe community. Alan Winstanley from Medguys was the guest speaker and he informed the ladies that being prepared in first aid could save a life. “It is important to know what to do in an emergency situation but as long as you know the basic rules everything else will take care of itself. Firstly it is very important to stay calm and call for help. Emergency numbers to call are 082 9111 or 084 124. You should also get the person in a comfortable position until an emergency service arrives. Burn wounds must be kept moist, ice can help soothe the burn and vinegar helps to keep the wound moist, but Burnshield should be applied” said Alan. “It is of utmost importance that one always has a first aid box handy that contains all the emergency medicines as well as gloves and bandages. In the event of choking one should stand behind the person and place a fist on the persons stomach and pull upwards” continued Alan.
The ladies were then treated to hot vegetable soup made by Nadline du Plessis from Bosch. Nadline demonstrated the all new Bosch Auto Cooker. Each lady received a certificate for attending the workshop and Mpho Mavunga was the winner of the Domestic Worker of the Month.
