I have been doing some deep reflections in my life and I have distilled some of my life lessons into 3 principles towards success in life:
1. Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do. (By Bruce Lee)
We all go through school and learn a lot of knowledge just to pass an exam that we will not see again. I always felt our school system do not prepare us for the working world because we are not applying what we know enough in the real world situation. That is our educational system. We should be training ourselves for what we commit ourselves to.
So if you are still confused between education and training. Ask yourself what is the difference between physical education and physical training. So knowing about success and wanting success is not enough, we must apply what we know and just do it.
You cannot loose weight by knowing how to loose weight, you have to do so by doing the right exercises and the right food and supplements to take. Same with business, you cannot do it with just plans, you have to do it with process, systems and labor.
2. Everything we do, there is an 80/20 to it
The Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule is a natural and reoccurring phenomena.
Just ask yourself this questions,
- 80% of your happiness comes from 20% of what activities?
- 80% of your problems comes from 20% of which items?
- 80% of your sales comes from 20% of which clients?
- 80% of your time is spend on 20% of which activites?
Once you discover where is your resources going to, how to come up with steps to improve it?
3. Mind Your Own Business & focus on it.
Majority of your employers, family and friends are trying to influence and convince you that their opinion and way is right. They want to make their business your business. We focus so much on other people affairs that we neglect our own. If you keep minding other people business, how would you have time for yours?
What is minding your own business? Focusing on growing your health, wealth and happiness. Other people health, wealth and happiness that you care about should not take priority over your own survival. The poor cannot help the poor. Only those who are rich can help the poor.
Mind your own business and look after your well being so that when you have more, you can help other people that you care and grow with them. It’s not about being selfish, it about giving yourself the love & priority in life so that you can live the life you want.
