Today, being Mandela day, and in honour of this great legend, Hirsch’s Centurion brought ‘miles of smiles’ to the children at the Viva Village. Toothbrushes and toothpaste which had been collected as part of our ’67 minutes of good’ campaign, were received with much enthusiasm.
The Viva Kids Foundation consists of a crèche, pre-primary school, Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes catering for 168 children – but also affecting the extended families. The children are not only taught, but also receive 3 nutritious meals per day.
Director of the Foundation, Meleney Kriel, showed us around the facility, pointing out what had been achieved through this outreach into the community. The project consists of a ‘village’ within the Alaska informal settlement, and includes vegetable gardens, a cooking school and a soon to be completed classical music centre.
With Oral Health being of utmost importance to the wellbeing of the children – the Foundation expressed gratitude towards Hirsch’s for making these donations possible.
