MOTIVATION BY DIETER JANSEN

When it all seems out of reach……

“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t Quit.  Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’ ” – Muhammad Ali

It’s been a year since I wrote the last blog.  A year that started off witnessing some of the most bizarre human behaviours, to making tough and unpopular decisions, to taking a step back in the business, going back to basics, finding a new project, new home and new community, to overcoming challenges, re-building self-confidence and dealing with mental shrapnel, to restoration of life and achieving real peace of mind.  No blogs were forthcoming in this time because I write from the heart, and my heart was dealing with obscure, frustrating and anxious themes, which were in part confusing, in part paralyzing, and sometimes even sinister.  I did not want to pass that on to you, even if I could have mustered up the creativity to write them.

All this to say that life can, and does, throw curve balls at you and your plans.  Sometimes they are of your own doing – poor decisions, etc., and sometimes completely out of the blue, leaving you bewildered and despondent.  All thoughts of “See it, Believe it, Achieve it” can quickly go out the window when this happens, and leaves you wondering whether it was all just “dust in the wind”, as the 70’s rockers Kansas say.

But then I look around me.  The technology we have around us; the inspiring leaders, though currently few and far between, that we look up to; the children we are bringing up.  All of these are dependent on our dreams and aspirations.  All of these have bumps, bruises, setbacks and doubts along the way, until a day in the distant future when we stop, look up, and see what has been achieved.  Adverse circumstances can be used to hone discernment, to sift out what is important, and to inspire gratitude.  Counter-intuitive, but I’ve ended 2018 with more gratitude than I can ever remember having.

Thus the only advice that makes sense is to keep believing, keep going, and keep focused on the dream, no matter what.  Even when all plans are on hold, they are not over.  Wait on them with passionate patience!   What you think, that you will become.
