SUPPLIERS GOING GREENER.
Commenting on their suppliers taking the eco friendly route and going greener, Allan Hirsch, CEO of the Hirsch Group says that there are various ways that their suppliers are taking up the challenge and becoming a lot more energy efficient. “Let’s take refrigeration for instance” Says Hirsch. “Suppliers are increasing the density of the insulation, thus reducing the leakage of coldness. There has also been an improvement in the efficiency of the motors, and they now tend to use less electricity. The slightly higher priced fridges have got cooling zones – keeping food fresher for longer.”
“With regards to laundry, suppliers have improved the efficiency of the motor so it doesn’t use as much energy. They’ve also reduced the water levels in the washing machine so it takes the correct amount of water, and they’ve introduced censors that sense the amount of soap powder that you use for a particular load, thus preventing wastage. Spin speeds have been improved so the cycle is a lot quicker and more energy efficient. Energy efficiency with regards to the tumble driers has been increased so they don’t use as much electricity as they have done in the past. ” Says Hirsch.
