WONDERFUL WOMEN CELEBRATE FOOD
Mauritian-born chef Monique Labat recently launched her cookbook, ‘Facebook Foodie: Recipes of the Liked and Shared’. Now she is travelling the country talking to people about her passion for food, and what it takes to self-publish.
Monique recently spoke at the Hirsch’s Hillcrest ladies networking morning in honor of women’s day. Truly good food is most often made with a little love and a real understanding of where your produce originates. And this is certainly true for chef and author Monique. With her fondest food memories dating back to her youth, and special family recipes being passed down from her mother, Monique’s love for food started with a love for the land from which it came. “Whisking egg yolks with locally produced sugar on the Island of Mauritius and combining the custard with home grown vanilla pods was a technique taught to me by my mother. And this ‘Crème à la vanille’ is a standard pairing for the stewed guava and pawpaw dishes our family loves,” she says. Commented Public Relations Officer Jonathan Brauteseth “It is always so inspiring to see so many wonderful women in business getting together in order to support one another’s businesses especially now during women’s month – we at Hirsch’s hope that every woman has a wonderful women’s day and month!”
