COMING OUT OF THE DARKNESS – AND EMPOWERING WOMEN!
Hirsch’s Somerset West recently hosted a Ladies Networking event with Daniela Beukman as the guest speaker. Daniela is the project coordinator for Woodworx and project manager at Tehillah Community Collaborative. This event was held to share Daniela’s story and to help empower and motivate the women in the audience.
Daniela told networkers that she had been a chronic heroine user for the last 18 years, and it cost her custody of her daughter, Alex. She attempted to kick the habit in 2010, but couldn’t manage to stay clean for longer than 9 months. In October 2016, she was given the opportunity to go to rehab and now in October 2018, she will be clean for 2 years. Her marriage is stronger and a month ago she got back custody of her daughter. Her husband, Allen, is running a skills development program at Elim Night shelter, and is a very talented draughtsman and craftsman.
Many of the women in the audience were inspired and stood up to speak about their stories. One lady, Minette, explained how she is not in business but has worked before at running events. She has been a housewife now for three and a half years. “I’ve got no clue why I am here, but I just had this nudge and it’s God, I just know it’s Him, just saying Get Out There” Minette explained, as she had seen the flyer only late the night before. After the meeting, COO of Hirsch’s, Margaret Hirsch, who has been empowering women for many years, sat down with Minette and gave her some tips and inspiration to start her own business and fulfil her dream and purpose.
It was Daniela’s daughter’s 9th birthday on the day of the event, and one of Anna’s students, Jennifer, donated one of her vanilla cakes that she made and decorated – to Alex.
