Helping learners become entrepreneurs
COO of Hirsch’s Homestores, Margaret Hirsch, along with a team from Hirsch’s Fourways recently visited Heron Bridge College for their Grade 8 Innovation Summit where the students were put into teams and had to create their own business concepts. Margaret, along with 7 other entrepreneurs and experts in their fields, had the honor of scoring and guiding the 22 business teams. Concepts ranged from an app that assists hospitals by keeping a patients details on it, to vanilla and cinnamon capsules for your coffee and tea.
Margaret spoke to the students about her story and how she and her husband Allan started Hirsch’s not by it just falling on their laps, but by sheer hard work and determination. Margaret shared her personal story about how she built her company and career in the property sector. “It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to have been a part of today where the scholars are being taught entrepreneurship as part of their curriculum. The entrepreneurs of this country are the capitalists that will keep it buoyant and take the country from good to great.” commented Margaret. She told the learners that if they want something in life, they have to go out and get it and take what they learn in school to improve their lives.
