On Mandela Day Hirsch’s Somerset West provided food to the beneficiaries of the Thembalitsha Foundation, the goal of this initiative was not only to give back to the community but also to establish a partnership with a foundation that is renowned for the incredible work they do in the community.
Thembalitsha is a Xhosa word meaning “new hope” and hope is what Thembalitsha Foundation aims to restore to the destitute, sick and vulnerable in our communities throughout the Western Cape. We are a South African-based non-profit organization (NPO) developing people to a place of self-reliance by providing services in education, healthcare and training. Thembalitsha Foundation is made up of a diverse group of people who are highly invested in this work and who provide critical input and resources that are vital to the success of the organization’s vision.
“Everyday for us is Mandela Day, community work is not part time, but a full time responsibility. We at Thembalitsha want to thank Hirsch’s for helping us on Mandela Day, it is highly appreciated, and it is selfless acts like this that keeps the spirit of Tata Madiba alive.” commented Bernadette Crewe- Brown, Marketing Manager for Thembalithsa Foundation.
“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.” ― Nelson Mandela
