Hirsch’s Centurion recently gave recognition to the Margaret Hirsch Woman in Business Achiever finalist for October, Sonja Smith, founder of the Sonja Smith Elite Funeral Group. Sonja is regarded as a leading role player in the Funeral Industry of SA and was the first to introduce Green Funerals, Evening Funerals and Living Funerals to SA. She is chairman of Toastmasters, is a regular speaker on radio and television and was recently interviewed by Carte Blanche on her legislative challenge regarding miscarried/stillborn babies.
The finalist for September, Karen de Villiers, also received her award as she was previously unable to do so due to business commitments. Karen a qualified accountant with more than 10 years in the field. She has a passion for entrepreneurs and started her business, Bizzacc Accountants in 2008 to service the SMME Market.
The guest speaker at the event was Theresa Robberts. Theresa is sight impaired and carried the Paralympic torch representing the first UK female blind cricket team. She inspires her audience through sharing how she has overcome numerous obstacles encountered due to her disability.
The title of her message was ‘Seeing is not believing’. She encouraged the businesswomen attending the event to expand their vision by thinking BIG. “Don’t believe what you see right now – think and dream bigger”, said Theresa. She stressed the importance of having good Mentors in your life – and that you could have a Mentor every day while travelling in your car – via countless excellent audio resources that are available. Theresa also reminded the ladies that many ‘little’s’ add up to ‘a lot’ – and that spending a small amount of time daily on your personal growth would reap rich rewards.
After the message, each of the women present were given a 30 second opportunity in which to introduce themselves and their business.
No Hirsch event would be complete without some lovely lucky draws, where after the opportunity was given for informal networking over a cappuccino made by Diana, and some lovely refreshments – provided by Naomi Durham from the bedroom boutique.
Thank you to the amazing Centurion team for always ensuring that our guests are made to feel welcome and for helping with the setup of the events.
