Stop these 3 habits to achieve greater success

Today, I would like to share with you 3 things you should quit to be more successful that you might find useful from my own life’s experience!

1. Quit Stopping

I remembered back in the military when I was climbing up Mt Biang (The highest and harshest mountain in the Brunei forest to overcome), with 25 kilograms worth of weight on my back, a helmet and a rifle in front of me, there were so many times I wish I could just stop to take a breather. But if I stop, that would mean that the mission would have to be delayed and lead us to a mission failure. With my face all painted with sweat and camou cream (green and black coloured), my platoon boys and I braved the painful climb and the scorching sun. The day before, we have traveled almost 10 kilometers through the dense vegetation and we’re all hungry and exhausted even before we reached Mt Biang. Nonetheless, we did not stop despite the hunger and exhaustion. We continued on, one step at a time, and achieved mission success at the end of the day.

They say that at the very moment you want to quit, you’re actually almost there. It’s our stupid human tendency to go so far and then allow our brains take over and tell us it’s too hard. When did we get the memo that life was supposed to be easy all the time?

Think right now about something you keep stopping. You committed to it, but then you suddenly quit because it started to require a little extra roughing. A project at work, a relationship, a fitness goal. Remember why you started it, then push onward. Because the more you stop and think about quitting, the longer it’ll take to get to your desired result. Or worse, you’ll never know what it feels like to reach the finish line.

2. Quit Saying Tomorrow

You know the saying, “Yesterday you said tomorrow?” You need to STOP THAT. Delaying or procrastinating around something that you think is important means one of two things: You’re either scared to start because it means your life will be tough following that or you simply don’t want it bad enough!

So yes, that new healthy eating thing you want to do will be very difficult and possibly unpleasant. But every day you wait to start is another day you’re not helping yourself. And you keep telling yourself that you’ll wait until the kids are a certain age before you finish your degree, but is that really the main reason you’re waiting? Or is it because studying is not nearly as exciting as all the other options you have right now? And while you’re at it, why are you donating free money to the gym? They haven’t seen you in months.

3. Quit Avoiding

Face it. We all have things we don’t want to do, but we have to do them because we’re adults, right?
After every mission out in the field, my boys and I will have to do the most dreadful task of all: Maintaining our rifle. It is super mundane and a no brain-er task, as we are required to scrub the metal pieces in the rifle for hours to remove off the rust and stains after it got soaked in the mud and rain for days.

These were the worst time for me because my body has been battered and the last thing I want to do is to scrub the metals in my rifle! But then again, if I were to stop taking care of my rifle, when time calls for me to really use it, it will be dysfunctional and it will not be able to “take care” of me!

Can I expect a dysfunctional rifle to protect me at war? No. Life doesn’t work that way. You can’t pluck the fun parts out and leave the tough parts on the table. You take all or none.

If we didn’t have to work hard to reach success, we wouldn’t appreciate it. If there’s something you’re putting off because it’s boring you, it’s hard, physically demanding or tiring…just get up and get it done. Quit avoiding it. There will be rewards along the way and there will be a great sense of accomplishment at the end!

Just say to yourself
if others can do it
i can too !!!

Have a fabulous day
